John: Your dream yesterday points out something that’s important to understand, in the sense that it was your inner depth, or your higher self, that was working to pull you back – through the imagery of the dream – into alignment with Creation (see A Constant Guide).

Humans today are rarely in alignment, or in attunement, with Creation. Because of our defense mechanisms, old patterns, and personalized view of life, we have, in general, lost our higher connections.

Still, when a person awakes to the true meaning and purpose of a human life, when they get back on a path away from their ego-life and begin the journey back toward wholeness, or Oneness, their alignment can become finer and finer.

Until the connection is constant in us, we will all have periods when we deviate from it and lose it again. That’s where our dreams can show us where we are going wrong, or how we can reconnect. But if, during the dream (or waking life), there’s something that’s bothering us, we will often trigger some pattern or defense mechanism, which acts like a veil to our connection.

But we do know that there’s an attuned guidance from within that we’re supposed to be able to pick up and recognize. In the case of your dream, you understood the importance of holding the dhikr (a practice of remembrance) in order to maintain a vibrational note that a human being is meant to uphold. But we can often deviate from that in relationship to circumstances we encounter in everyday life. We may not deviate far, but we do deviate.

But there will always be that inner echo that will try to pull us back. As in my dream (see A Well Being), as I slept I was realizing that I had to pay attention so I wouldn’t hurt my frozen shoulder. In that process I developed the image that there was a magic point, a stillness, that was reaching toward me that I needed to find, and in that stillness was the healing that was at my disposal.

If I could hit that point, then there would be true surrender. Opposite to that was the idea that I was in danger of hurting myself again – so there’s the pathway and the blockage (the veil) to the pathway. It’s a contrast, and a human being is meant to recognize in them the note or vibration that cycles through their whole being – and throughout all life – that sustains a certain aliveness because it’s part of what we’re intertwined with.

In that sense, for a human, Creation is the home base we foray out from – like the ants and their home – and when we get lost or disconnected (when we deviate), we still carry an echo in our nature of what is deemed to be home (Creation) and hold that as a memory imprint. If that “spot” is disturbed, we should, again like the ant, rush back to that point. It’s what we know and hear inside that sustains as our safety point.

For a lot of creatures, the safety point can be their mother, whom they will rush back to in a moment of danger. Disconnection from Creation is just such a danger for a human being. Even if, as in my dream, there wasn’t a complete answer for protecting my shoulder, it did offer a means to go into a higher self-depth; I was just finding it difficult to do because the physical condition consumed my attention (I couldn’t let go).

If I let myself go and surrender, I know that at a deeper level I’ll be led to an integration that’s important in terms who I am. What the integration leads to is something that’s intertwined with everything, but in the way of a microcosmic relationship to the whole.

So these images reflect a much bigger issue of how things are meant to be for human beings. Creation is our true home and our true safety. We get away from that whenever we move into personal identification, or an ego-based view of the world. When we realize we’ve gone astray, we attempt to find our way back. It’s natural to us.

As we do, we keep tuning in to different approaches that get us closer and closer – we swarm around and swarm around until, ultimately, as you indicated, we hear that vibration. We then come to see that the note strikes through everything, and is attuned to everything in Creation because, “As above, so below”: we are created in God’s image.

When we catch up with that vibration we understand how we’re a part of everything, and we effuse ourselves into Creation, because we are of Creation.

Jeane: I had a long, jumbled dream… It feels like I’m on the curve of the earth’s surface. Wherever I am it’s curved and desert-like and things are getting really jumbled up.

I go out, and then I have to find my way back. At the end, as I’m making my way back, I find a curved rod like a railing that heads along a round window.

If I can find where the railing is and find the center of it, then I’ll know how to get back. Sometimes I get lost. It’s funny.

Usually I don’t have an interpretation for my dreams, but in this one, at the end I finally find my way back to the center using the railing. My interpretation is that the railing is like the dhikr, which is a practice of remembrance. If there’s one thing that can be done to bring oneself back to center, that’s it. The dream was short and sweet.

John: This image reminds me of a phenomenon I saw earlier in the morning. I was looking at a small knob that stuck out from the dirt on a little side bank. It was surrounded by tiny spiders or perhaps ants. They seemed to congregate or swarm around the knob like it was their home base.

I tapped the knob with my shoe and watched them swarm around it even more energetically. It was like a signal went out to the group and they came from wherever else they were, as if they were protecting this home base.

In other words, it was in their psyche or their nature to defend this spot. I think you were doing something like that in your dream. Can you describe it again?

Jeane: It felt like when I would go out I’d get lost because everything seemed so jumbled up. I would have to find something that could guide me back. It ended up being a railing that went around the curve of the earth.

John: And so we all have some sense in our nature that directs us… just like the ants or spiders do. We all have a sense of having to sustain or maintain, or comply with a certain inner echo of how to maintain or sustain.

Even if it’s a situation that doesn’t actually work, it’s still built into us. We have this innate mechanism that can enable us to respond in a particular way. Like I’ve heard you say, if a human being learns to do that which they’re meant to do, then it’s the most natural thing to be able to stay connected to the inner vibration, or energetic imprint, that reaches into the depths of who and what we are at our core.

If a human being learns to follow this sensory note that resonates throughout them (which your image showed as a railing leading back to a base or center), they would see or recognize that there’s some quality or mannerism in a human being that, if they pay attention to, or hold to, will steer them in the best way they can go.

So this image is meant to show that we all carry such innate intelligence, and it echoes from a really, really deep level within us and serves as our constant guide in terms of what it means to hold to one’s true nature in the face of everything.

One has to uphold that; one has to live within that. If we are too noisy inside (with bills, job, etc.) we often don’t know if we’re listening to a proper inner echo. But we do know that there’s something that sits at the core of our basic nature that attunes us to where we are and what needs to be done next.

We see this reflected and echoed in nature in many, many ways, like with the ants and spiders who hold a particular space they deem important. They try to defend it. Their reactions might not seem rational to us (perhaps they should flee when something bigger attacks them?), but they don’t. Instead, they maintain what is the core of them (their true nature) no matter what happens.

And just such an instinct is in our nature, yet not about our external home base, it’s in maintaining or sustaining our connection to our inner home base, which is connected to all of Creation.

That’s what separates us from other living things on this planet: they are connected to the earth and maintain that connection that no matter what. The planet sustains the human being, but our true home base is in Creation. It is our nature and, in a sense, our duty, to maintain our Creation connection while we are here.

Jeane: In this next dream it seems like I’m at the department store that my folks had when I was young. I’m an adult and I’m with a group of people who are mingling together, or visiting, in the store. I know we’re not really working.

It’s around Halloween time. I’m going to leave with another person in a few minutes and then come back in my Halloween costume. I’ll be wearing black paint or a mask around my eyes, and then a full veil will cover me like a chador.

That’s my costume, but I’m taking the time to explain to someone what I’ll look like when I return because I don’t want to unsettle anyone with my dramatically changed appearance. Even though I realize that a Halloween costume is meant to surprise people, I’m trying to make sure that no one is overly shocked.

John: That’s an amazing illustration of the dichotomy that one faces when the spiritual aspect tries to relate to something that’s set in its nature, or that’s in the physical realms and has to obey the laws of the physical.

So you’re feeling that you’re connected to something that’s more expansive (the higher self), and you know that there tends to be a gap that exists between what you’re hearing inside and responding to, and what most other people hear and respond to.

In terms of trying to bring a balance to this situation, in a way that allows you to be yourself, you’re trying to reconcile what you can channel through you from the higher into the lower, i.e., channel it through and manifest it in the physical realms.

In the dream, by explaining your costume (which is an outfit with religious associations), you’re trying to make that effect or result something that’s recognized by others. You are recognized in your “normal” costume, but there’s something else to you, and you don’t want to be strictly identified, or pigeonholed, in relationship to either state. It’s like you have a self-consciousness at the spiritual level.

Instead of being able to flow freely, without inhibitions, in terms of your force-of-nature quality, you’re attempting to streamline that in such a way that it comes across in a form that can be accepted. At the same time as it’s accepted, what others see you as in physical form, shouldn’t be automatically associated with this being all there is about you.

So in wanting to be accepted, you also want all that there is about you to come across, or come through, in terms of what you sense, and feel, and the breadth of your wholeness. You have the idea that no single aspect of your expression is the be-all, end-all of who you are, and you want others to realize that. If they can, you’ll feel that this will result in them giving you the latitude to become still more than what’s perceivable by them (in a physical way).

The problem is, you’re also trying to take the limited faculties of the physical (sight, sound, etc) and, in a sense, asking them to let go to the fact that there’s something much greater than what’s easily perceivable. If you can somehow get that to happen, simply because you say it’s so, then it will be let go and all will be well.

Unfortunately, everything around us has it’s outer, physical characteristic. It’s like the root system that holds the energetic portrayal. Yet in a spiritual endeavor, you can’t truly connect to the higher while still maintaining a strong grip on physical. The physical experience can’t be your first premise – it’s a secondary aspect to the inner you.

So the physical manifestation, that is a human being, is always going to be, to some degree, projecting an outer characteristic. Somehow or another we all have to find this common medium between the two – between the energy and the matter – by which things grow, shift, and change. That’s what living in the physical and having the connection to the inner, higher self, is all about.
