The Price of Admission

This can be an unsettling truth: a spiritual journey can only be taken by an individual. Of course we can have teachers, guides, all manner of religious figures, but at the end of the day it is an individual process that we all must undertake within ourselves. Because every journey has to start from where we are, using the tools that we have. No one else can know that or go through the experience for us. It has to be made real in each of us. Jeane: The third dream involved something that suddenly, it’s like I’m enrolling people in seminars or something, and then I’ve taken a step back when I realize what I’m doing.

It’s more like I’ve drifted into it. Or I realize that the activity that I was doing suddenly was enrolling people in like a seminar, and then I backed off from that a bit because I really know I’m not that good at doing that, you know it’s not something I really enjoy a lot. And like I had kind of fallen into it with the activities I was involved in, and now I’m suddenly trying to take a step back a little bit.

So I’ve gone over to you and you’re sitting on a cloud, kind of like right on the edge of the cloud, and I look down over the edge of the cloud, like on an arctic landscape, and there’s a place where the snow has melted and is almost yellow, like there might even be a fire heat there.

And I ask you to move back a little because I’m a little uncomfortable with the height. And then I’m explaining to you that it seems like this activity I had started to get involved in, suddenly it seems to involve enrolling people or running a center where you would enroll people in seminars. And I know I’m really not that good at that. You know that’s not something I suddenly want to kind of get caught up in.

That’s about all I pulled out of that dream. It was hard to remember that one.

John: It’s another tack, an angle, upon which to look at the general theme or schematic which has to do with the balance, or the cadence, or the split-second moment, in which there is a connectivity that is perfectly intertwined.

So you then have a sight or an understanding that is there, in terms of a bit of the inner and a bit of the outer, because you can’t just go into the inner because it’s too transcendent. And in the outer, you have no recognition of what is really real.

And so, the tack you’re taking on this motif, is you also cannot lead others through. You’re realizing that. They have to go through the doorway themselves. And maybe there’s something about your presence and way of being, and what not, that can help to awaken.

But if you go beyond that and start taking on the idea that you can do something spiritual by leading them or directing them or guiding them, then you’re asking for trouble. Because even though they may think that it would be nice to be able to take a step through the doorway, as long as someone opens the doorway for them, it can’t work that way.

Some part of them has to rise up and recognize that that’s what needs to happen. That part that rises up, it lays claim to that energetic, finally, instead of holding on to things as they are in the outer, or to the equally perverted rejection of the outer and trying to throw oneself into the light – which just makes you ungrounded, some sort of spiritual illusion.

All your dream here is doing is it’s just pointing out and causing you to confront what it feels like if you’re trying to be the leader of a band, so to speak, in this particular area, when others have yet to pay the price of admission in order to come to a point where they can step through a threshold.

Just because you choose to be the leader of the band, doesn’t mean that you can take them through. They have to step through on their own. So, again, this is talking about an octave of that in-between place that’s really quickened and really alive, which is what is the dynamic in life—that’s as good as it gets, as far as I can see at this time, in terms of how consciousness awakens.

The Middle World

Trinity - Jroach413
Trinity – Jroach413

There’s a certain irony in the fact that the culture and society esteem people who are excellent managers of the outer world. By that I mean the people who seem to be “winning” at life: success, wealth, fame, etc. Yet what should be held in the highest regard are those that know how to consciously manage their inner lives, because everyone else can benefit from the work they do. What is that work? Upholding and radiating into the world, through them, greater truths about life. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: Then I had a middle dream that’s a little harder for me to remember well. And in this one, I seem to be in the hometown of my maternal grandmother, and I’m visiting between two women physicians who have gone out on their own to start their own practice. They’re kind of young physicians.

And I go between a room where one of them is setting up a practice and a room where another one is setting up a practice, except it seems like a bare room. It’s almost like they’re setting up a different kind of practice than they used to have.

And I just seem to be studying what they’re setting up and how it feels. They’re in different locations and they’re a little different temperaments or types. And I’m just going to visit the office, maybe even go for a session where I’m trying to learn something from one of them, and just studying the room, and assessing whether I think this is going to work out or not.

And then it goes into another dream.

John: It sounds like a precursor dream, meaning that a certain level of insight was reached, to which a couple of different choices were made in terms of how to proceed to function, or to flow with that.

And those choices were based upon doing something in an outwardly way. And it would still be outward, it would still be, in other words, middle world or however you want to say it, you know, still within the lower-self outer, when it’s just a matter of seeing how it’s going to look, or be, or work out in relationship to the outer dynamics.

With this carried through to another level, where, say action that is responding to something that is coming from within, then it’s not a matter anymore of how it works out in the outer, because you’re using the outer and working with the outer in relationship to something much deeper, which is on the inner.

And your attention is upon that. And in order to catch up with it and hold onto your attention that’s upon that, you have to be in the outer, going through the antics of the outer. But the virtue and value comes from the correlation of both and that takes you back; it’s another way of coming back to the recognition of the door.

And so, if you’re sitting there actually wondering how it is that this or that is doing, like you know all kinds of people in your life that have unique and interesting mannerisms, and how life is working out for them is generally based or keyed to how they cope in the outer, and that’s the wrong perspective. It’s how they cope in terms of the inner dynamic; that’s what is important.

That’s where you have a change that has a quickening or an aliveness that is meaningful. You have to look at things in terms of how it awakens some sort of inner recognition. Or, to put it another way, what is it that they really prefer? They prefer to stay caught in the outer motif of things.

You break through something like that. You are incorporating qualities that take you outside of a “me, myself, and I.” You’re looking to do something that touches and affects and normalizes, equalizes, in the whole. People don’t want to do that. They like these distinctions.

Touching the Issue

houseAn important point is made through this dream analysis: on a spiritual journey we don’t leave where we are and go somewhere else, somewhere loftier or somewhere enlightened. We do it right here, where we are. We do it through us, by bringing our higher connections from inner into outer life. That’s the shift: life usually comes from outside us and we react on the inside. Instead we should be living on the inside and radiating that into the world – in any circumstance. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: Well, my initial dream was like a reverb dream again, in the sense that I was coughing last night, and it was like the coughing became like this contest between a cough that created one kind of sound and a cough that created another kind of sound.

And I was studying that result, even discussing it with somebody else, because it was actually like a singing contest and a certain type of cough could even bring in a trill, or certain vibrato, in the voice, and another type of cough created another one.

I was studying and noticing that sometimes, when it got right down to, you know, winning the contest there was a certain type of sound that everybody liked, but that I felt it was almost unfair to bring in because you were pulling something that was outside of the normal range.

And I had a feeling that if you won it you should win it more within your normal voice range, which seems like a strange statement to make, but to me it seemed sometimes a little unfair to suddenly pull in something totally out of the range just to win the contest.

And so, I would study this one type of cough versus the other and see if you could actually win with the type that was more your ordinary voice. So, that was the initial dream.

John: That’s a very cute way of presenting the issue, because the subject matter has to do with the in-between doorway, between inner and outer.

And most people who are looking at how life is meant to become more awakened, or conscious, think that it’s a matter of going from one zone into another, or through a veil. In other words from lower-self to higher-self, or something like that, in which there is a leaving behind of a whole other quality or aspect of your being.

Well, that might be true on a whole other level of consciousness, but on the level of consciousness that I’m having to look at and confront, and am being shown that I have to deal with, it’s portrayed as being able to be in that split second, when the higher-self and the lower-self come together, which is at that doorway, merely a split second.

It’s not a one way or the other, because in the lower-self, the sound is horrible, as you were realizing. And in the higher-self, that sound is uncapture-able. But in the interval, there’s the proper lilt and, in that moment, in that rootedness, where there is a recognition, because it is fluid, that is between the inner and the outer, it touches the issue, instead of skirting it, in one way or another.

That carries the proper lilt. In fact, it’s more than a lilt, it’s a permission. And you can’t take—this is where the conundrum comes in—you can’t take and go into that and throw that around outwardly in order to, guess you would say, win a competition. Because this is something that each aspect of life has to embrace, has to want to engage in, has to want to flow with.

What you’re doing is you were doing a real cute portrayal of understanding how this principle worked. And of course you could take it to another level and say, okay, now one can kind of understand what the Battle of Jericho was about. There, something occurred that was outside of the ordinary, where a particular quality or note was hit, that then was able to affect the situation and the walls of Jericho come tumbling down, was able to create that kind of breakthrough.

Well, we don’t do that anymore because that’s generally a violation. That’s something that goes beyond the freedom of choice.

And so you’re looking at the fact that there is something different and distinct when you come to and reach a point in which you can more or less have glimpses of, and connections to, two sides, the inner and the outer, from which there’s a flow.

But it’s not a flow that can work in the collective because it’s not invited. It’s not something that the outer has selected or chosen. And so, as a consequence, there are all kinds of activities that you can do that are reflective in the outer, that really, at their deepest core, go all the way back to something between an inner and an outer cadence. And when it is like that, you have to stop. You can’t go forward.

Everyone’s subjected to it. They don’t really want to change it. They have reasons for wanting to stay behind the veil. And so a person can’t suddenly get real clear and think that they can pioneer this whole thing. No, it doesn’t work that way. You don’t work with cheerleaders. Nothing grows if they stay as cheerleaders. And the chances are you’re going to get torn down, because those who secretively don’t want it to change, will be very, very loud, and everyone else that’s a cheerleader doesn’t do anything. And so nothing changes.
