The Middle World

There’s a certain irony in the fact that the culture and society esteem people who are excellent managers of the outer world. By that I mean the people who seem to be “winning” at life: success, wealth, fame, etc. Yet what should be held in the highest regard are those that know how to consciously manage their inner lives, because everyone else can benefit from the work they do. What is that work? Upholding and radiating into the world, through them, greater truths about life. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: Then I had a middle dream that’s a little harder for me to remember well. And in this one, I seem to be in the hometown of my maternal grandmother, and I’m visiting between two women physicians who have gone out on their own to start their own practice. They’re kind of young physicians.

And I go between a room where one of them is setting up a practice and a room where another one is setting up a practice, except it seems like a bare room. It’s almost like they’re setting up a different kind of practice than they used to have.

And I just seem to be studying what they’re setting up and how it feels. They’re in different locations and they’re a little different temperaments or types. And I’m just going to visit the office, maybe even go for a session where I’m trying to learn something from one of them, and just studying the room, and assessing whether I think this is going to work out or not.

And then it goes into another dream.

John: It sounds like a precursor dream, meaning that a certain level of insight was reached, to which a couple of different choices were made in terms of how to proceed to function, or to flow with that.

And those choices were based upon doing something in an outwardly way. And it would still be outward, it would still be, in other words, middle world or however you want to say it, you know, still within the lower-self outer, when it’s just a matter of seeing how it’s going to look, or be, or work out in relationship to the outer dynamics.

With this carried through to another level, where, say action that is responding to something that is coming from within, then it’s not a matter anymore of how it works out in the outer, because you’re using the outer and working with the outer in relationship to something much deeper, which is on the inner.

And your attention is upon that. And in order to catch up with it and hold onto your attention that’s upon that, you have to be in the outer, going through the antics of the outer. But the virtue and value comes from the correlation of both and that takes you back; it’s another way of coming back to the recognition of the door.

And so, if you’re sitting there actually wondering how it is that this or that is doing, like you know all kinds of people in your life that have unique and interesting mannerisms, and how life is working out for them is generally based or keyed to how they cope in the outer, and that’s the wrong perspective. It’s how they cope in terms of the inner dynamic; that’s what is important.

That’s where you have a change that has a quickening or an aliveness that is meaningful. You have to look at things in terms of how it awakens some sort of inner recognition. Or, to put it another way, what is it that they really prefer? They prefer to stay caught in the outer motif of things.

You break through something like that. You are incorporating qualities that take you outside of a “me, myself, and I.” You’re looking to do something that touches and affects and normalizes, equalizes, in the whole. People don’t want to do that. They like these distinctions.
