Caught between two worlds, as humans are, between the worlds of energy and the worlds of matter, requires that we roll up our sleeves and get a bit dirty. That’s because such an interaction always treads in unknown territories. But that’s the way of it. It’s for us to discover, to make mistakes and try again, each in our own individual way – yet always in service to the whole. Those are the terms by which things work, and we have our role to play. John: This process of awakening is messy, and what I learned is this: the soul has two qualities or characteristics about it. One is sound, and the other is light. And that when you’re working on the level of sound, you really don’t have a tangible consciousness. It’s kind of like the soul is in the overall, but it hasn’t really evolved yet or something.
And then when the levels of sound open up to levels of light, where that spins at that high speed and that’s the etheric spirit energy which is a light, when you open up to that, you now are bringing in a consciousness, and so now you can see things.
So for sound you have a hearing, with light you have a seeing. For those who have the need to kind of know in some other capacity other than the flashes of the overall, that’s where light is important, and that’s where the soul aspects again. And that in between the sound and the light, is the journey; that’s the expansion and contraction magnetism, or however you call that, whether you call it magnetism or whatever it is.
The sound has one quality to it, the light has another quality to it that’s more etheric, and there is a motion that goes back and forth between those two points. And that motion is considered the path, or the journey. Ultimately you hit a point that’s beyond both the light and beyond the sound, which is just the stillness – and it is out of the stillness that everything was created.
In other words, a way of characterizing it was if you split the atom you have both light and sound. And yet if you take an atom in the human body there’s miles and miles of space between one atom and the other, if you were to really look at it, because actually the body is an aspect of the cosmos as well.
And it’s this area in between, whatever you want to call that, synaptic, etheric, whatever you want to call it, that’s beyond where the electrons are spinning around to hold the atom together and you have the nucleus and the protons and all of that, that firing off that goes between the two is like the interchange between the dynamics of something in sound and in light or, in other words, the bringing in.
So when you have the out-breath coming down, you’re actually trying to bring a certain light into the world. And that light then touches the sound quality, awakens the light within that, and that rises back up to the top. That’s where you get the principle of light coming down to touch light and light rising up to touch light.
When you are experiencing things on a level of sound, in which ceremonies and dhikrs and all of that stuff are meaningful, you’re traveling towards God. When you’re experiencing things in the levels of light, you’re traveling in God; again to use kind of some nomenclature that Sufis try to talk about.
The consequence of all of that had me realizing that I had disturbed something, and I knew I had disturbed something. But the dynamic that took place, all of it then filtered in to make sense in terms of a breakthrough. It’s awkward and odd how these breakthroughs seem to have to work; you know, it’s messy. You reach a point where it’s just messy.
The realization, at some point in time, that says you have to write your own book. Which is the same thing as saying that we go through, each of us, and experience things and how it is that we feel and orient towards the world is how the world is.
So contemplate this, the mind which is kind of considered in spiritual realms to be kind of a dirty word because if you’re in your mind you’re caught up in limitations or something, not with the perfectly focused mind. A perfectly focused mind can bring in an aspect of the divine. Otherwise it sits in an unconscious soul aspect of everything that’s in a dense way, or in a dense form.
