Rhythmic Fluidity

It is easy to think that what we want is the most important thing at any given moment. But it’s worth realizing that every other living thing is also seeking its optimum fulfillment every day. Humans, though, with their freedom of choice, can become energetic shepherds of what is happening around them, if they let go to their personal view of life and begin to act on behalf of the universal unfolding. John: The mediation dream evolved into the following realization. This started out where it involved a person named Billy Burns who is a super nice guy that, for whatever reasons, couldn’t oppose anything. And so anything that he would work on, everyone else had the advantage. And so it was like, why even live? In fact, in life, he died early, because he had no strength to persevere with a momentum of his own, to fight anything.

An example was given to portray this. I have him on my football team, and it’s like my football team. And then there’s this other person, who overpowers in life in every way that he approaches life, and he has the other team.

After the game is over, in which, of course, the other team totally dominated us, I joke with this guy, that’s used to prevailing with everything that he wants, over how everything they did just ran right over us. It’s his perspective that that’s the way it’s supposed to work. This is what he expected. That’s how he sees life. So he’s actually kind of being humble when he indicates that there were five or six plays out of this whole game where we stopped them somehow and, of course, I realize that it was either by a fluke or because they miscued on the play, or some other reason, because they were so dominant in every position. But he gave us that. We could have that. Those five or six plays that didn’t work for them was our credit. But by and large, everything else is a complete catastrophe.

Well, that was an example, but there was something to that. That was given to us. There was no opposition. He was humble about that. He didn’t fight us on that, because he got what he wanted, and that’s the way it was.

I recognize that there’s a deep understanding. That’s why I want Billy on my team because he surrendered to this sort of thing and it happens and he doesn’t go and get beat up on himself and get all agitated as if it should be different. Because I knew that he knew how to work with his limitation. No one else saw how this was a valuable asset, but he did. As he let everyone succeed in an unopposed way with what they wanted. He took what didn’t interest any of them, that was left over, whatever it might be.

This approach achieved a steady, almost imperceptible advancement in life. Accomplishments came by way of acceptance. Behind the acceptance was a graciousness that unfolded naturally. This was a win/win situation, designed with the gracious wisdom and insight to always go along with the flow. And all opposition, which is a distraction, which killed the natural flow, was ignored or let go of.

To unfold as a divine flow under this consciousness, of being totally vulnerable, turned out to be kind of exhilarating. If anything was opposed that someone else wanted, in the end, you would get stripped or weighed down, and thus failed, from the natural flow.

The energetic vibration that arose from this awareness of being in a natural flow where everything that was a thought process that wanted this or wanted that, and it all was able to happen, and you facilitated the flow as a consequence of all of that, where everything got what it wanted, led to a kind of joy.

The freedom to see what was given by life as a natural process filled you with an exhilaration. The letting go and surrender enhanced the environment around you. And, as a result, you suddenly see yourself naturally intwined, as everything prospers, as it desires or needs, as the natural flow unfolds in its rhythmic fluidity.

Back to your dream, you take out the bearded approach, which is going to have a certain approach that works. And when it works in its way, it accomplishes things that, you know, and that’s why it got developed. It has a lot of power in that approach. But it has limitations, too, because it had its own setness.

And then the guy from Niger, what a state of identity. You can see him in that. Man, that is impressive, but at the same time, what does that get in the way of? And yet in terms of everything that approaches or is done in relationship to that impressiveness, it’s going to excel. But you can get confused by that. And then you could think that it’s okay to be a little like this, or it’s okay to excel like that, when what’s really needed is to let go of it all.

Changing the Pace

imag00esWe can consider that all dreams have an aspect of flow in them, where the timings of how things intersect, or the struggle or ease of getting somewhere or doing something as the story image unfolds, all are clues to how we are in relation to a flow. And we can also say that spiritual development, or personal development, is mostly a matter of letting go of those things that prevent us from experiencing the natural flow of life. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

John: My dream raises the question: “What happens if you drop all guidelines? What happens if everything that anyone else wants, you let them have? What happens if you function in which you want nothing for yourself?”

In such an approach, have a natural flow and understanding that whatever anyone else wants, or needs, or thinks that they need, that you help them achieve or cater to. And, in doing so, you take only that which is left over, which is part of a divine flow, that no one else is paying any attention to. If someone else pays attention to it, then there will be a resistance if you try to receive that.

You only receive what is left over, what no one else wants. How does that work? And what happens is that when it is a kind of divine flow like that, that what advances as a graciousness in life is imperceptible to the attention of others, because that isn’t what they’re looking at.

The thing that is different is you have the ability to see what everyone else wants and cater to that, and whatever’s left over, whatever that might be, is what you end up with. And over a course of time, that turns out to be something incredible in terms of the divine flow. Because the divine flow is outside of where all of this other interaction is going on. And you have come to recognize that and no one else has thought of this before, or is able to do this, because each person has their own set predilections.

In your dream, you have the guy from Niger who has his way that works for him. And the guy that’s bearded has his tariqa background that works for him. Neither of them know how to let go of that, and behind that is something even more, that is naturally there, as a total vulnerability subjectivity, or however you’d say it, means by which something is to occur.

Well, this is shown to me by virtue of two dreams. The first meditation dream set the context, in terms of how the environment needs to be in terms of this natural flow occurring. And then the second is just adhering, as a consequence of this understanding, to the natural flow.

In the meditation dream, I see myself as traveling along with two other travelers. I’m not sure just exactly where we’re going. It seems like we’re in the middle of—we’re kind of outside of all of my ordinary-type comfort zones, because nothing is familiar to me.

And in the distance, we see a place where it’s possible to spend some time, like an oasis in terms of a long journey. It’s a place of rest or something, after having traveled through a fairly nondescript countryside. So it’s kind of a change of pace to that. There’s nothing other than the fact that it’s a stopping point in the process of all of that.

At this stopping point, or in the distance, I see two ping-pong tables there, and I see a few other travelers hanging around that area and I get excited. I come out of my trudging-along way and realize that, you know, I can play this game that I thoroughly enjoy, and the only limitation is, well, it may have to be with the two companions that I’m traveling with who are probably klutzes, because everything that they do is strained—difficult, I mean—you know, I have somehow or another just been on this process and accepted it, but for them it was a struggle.

Well, to my surprise, as I get closer to this place, I recognize a person that is there and this person recognizes me, and we’re both equally matched in terms of being able to get into a flow and play this game and have a lot of fun.

At the same time, I realize to my surprise, that both of my companions are eager to play. So how’s this going to work? Well, like I said, fortunately there were two ping-pong tables. Well, my friend, who is there and is a professional at this, he has his own ping-pong paddle, and there are three other paddles that are there. Well, I know that I won’t have a chance with this guy because he’s got a really good ping-pong paddle and those others are just provided. And they’re probably broken-down paddles that, you know, are going to have limitations about them. So against this kind of friend of mine, who’s really onto his game, I won’t have a chance. That’s going to be a dilemma. But he knows that, too, and he wants only the best to happen.

So he grabs a paddle from the three that are there and tosses it to me saying, “You’re just going to have to do the best you can with this.” I look the paddle over. He’s just being humble about the whole thing, because the paddle he selected is in excellent shape. There’s nothing wrong with the paddle. Both sides are good. It doesn’t have any wear and tear, and yet he did it in such a way so that the other two paddles that are left, but the other two travelers who can’t play very well anyway, are going to end up with won’t feel like something got cherry-picked from them.

In other words, so there’s no letting on. In order to start the game, I must guess the temperature outside. And to do this, I have to throw the paddle in the air, and somehow I get a gauge of the conditions of things. And then it’s my friend’s turn, and when he’s done, he says the temperature is 64 degrees. Well, that sounds about right to me. I’m convinced he has about got it right, but the actual temperature is 58 degrees.

So anyway, we’re establishing a balance through this, in terms of beginning the game, in terms of who starts the serve, and so on. In terms of finding the conditions, in terms of the outer flow, in order to catch up with this inner freedom that we carry within, that exudes.

So what is going on, and what is the meaning?

The meditation dream image begins with me aimlessly ambling with two others in the same, slow condition. Where we’re at is in the wide open spaces of manifestation, where we find ourselves having to put up with being confined to the pace and condition of the way the current environment is. And yet somehow, I am trying to get beyond that, and I do not know when it will ever be possible to go beyond these set conditions and be more myself. If I dwelled upon looking at that state of being outside of a flow or something.

And as it works out, I get a lucky break. At this place that we come to, the conditions just happen to be right for me to change the current pace. Because this is going to quicken the current pace considerably, three things need to be taken into account that changes the environment.

First is time. Am I able to work with the tools before me to change the pace? Or am I still resigned and consigned to having to hold back? And if one is holding back, they’re still prone to having to be weighed down, based upon the current conditions in which the timing is off. And the timing wasn’t off for me. The paddle was there. The professional was there. The flow was there for me to tie right into.

So in the dream, an extra paddle that I am able to use that is adequate for the situation, meaning the tool or whatever, is there. And B, the environment I am in is conducive to the play. The timing was right. The place was right, too, because it was appropriate. The right conditions were at this place because A, the game of life is played here, and B, the tools I need are here, and C, the weather is conducive. And so were the people right.

In other words, this guy that nothing could happen if I played with people that just were klutzes because then I couldn’t be myself, but the people are right. A person who can press me and I him as we flow about is here and we can together quicken the pace and work upon the inner—you know, the innerness of what unfolds from within as we play this game in an intertwined way—because between us, there’s a natural inner flow and outer mutuality that’s exciting.

im098agesThis imagery continues the dream conversation (see Defining How It Is) because sometimes in the course of a night of dreaming the images begin by presenting the case, or the situation, that we are dealing with. Subsequent imagery, which may seem like completely separate dreams, will often further what has been established and then allow a look at the issue from different angles. In this way, we are offered an unbiased view that can allow us to better understand where we are.  (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: And then it feels like I have a dream where I have to go to an event at my niece’s house. For this event, I need an outfit that will be kind of interchangeable. In other words, I need to be able to change from something that I wear for dinner to something I wear outside, to maybe something I wear swimming. And I go to the store and I actually find this outfit that’s kind of green with black polka dots on it. And it has a skirt and a top, and then maybe a shorter skirt and a bathing suit that all match. So I’ve taken it over to show it to her; so this would allow me to change rapidly for each function.

At the same time, I want to be able during this time to have dinner with her daughter and new husband, who I know are working a lot of hours, but then I find that they are coming and spending weekends at the mother’s house because they see it’s easier to eat there. So that means that I should be able to get together with them, too.

Having worked all that out, I seem to go back to see how the experiment in the first dream is working and realize that, at this point in time, it’s not working that well, that having shaved one person’s beard and making the other person do things they are not used to, is not flowing well right now, at this point. And that maybe I need to let them continue with their traditions for a while longer.

John: This is something that has to be found, as a naturalness, as an understanding, as a graciousness, in which there is no design based upon projection. Everyone sees life as something in which you have to put on a particular quality or attire in order to get things to happen.

Like you notice how that is. That it’s easier if you accommodate a certain persona with regards to getting together with your niece’s daughter and husband and whatnot. In other words, so that you wouldn’t be standing out as someone peculiar and separate from how they needed to appreciate life. You’re seeing yourself as having a greater fluidity by having made this kind of adjustment, in terms of yourself, and so you’re inclined to think that that was an adjustment that speeded things along.

So you realize that then, when you take and you approach something that has fostered its own design, like the guy from Niger, following an evolvement or type of tariqa, so to speak, where he did what he did in accordance with an established tradition, and the other had its established tradition, that this sort of thing worked. And when each of those was taken out of their recognized established tradition, they had problems in terms of coping.

So, you’re sitting thinking, “oh, well, perhaps I should just let them do what they do best in terms of their mannerism.” But deep down you know that that also blocks something from happening. In other words, Niger is Niger, and a bearded approach is a bearded approach, and beyond what is able to happen with that quality or mannerism is something even more. But they cannot function without their filter.

So what your dream is doing is your dream is taking a situation, or a scenario, and plopping you into that scenario and pointing out that how it is that you are in that scenario functions according to certain prescribed guidelines. You still see yourself having to subordinate yourself to those specific and particular guidelines.
