We may have grown up to think that we need all types of things that we don’t have, i.e., money, career, property. And while those things are highly valued in the culture and system we find ourselves in, humans are, like everything else on this planet, born into a situation where they are given everything they need to fulfill their purpose and function. So while it may seem that our fulfillment is outside of us, it is really found in the proper understanding and use of what we already have been given: our human design, an ecology meant to support us, and a universe that reaches down to us – if we reach up. John: In the meditation dream, initially I own a piece of property that is a bit on a slope, but it’s located in a good environment, or good area, but because it’s on a slope or has a little hill or incline to it, when I water it, even though there’s excellent soil, the water tends to gravitate down to a lower area.
What is fascinating about this is that the grass in this lower area stays greener. It doesn’t even require anything to speak of because it just seems to have the natural benefit of the area that’s surrounding it. And so it has me a little bit baffled because this lower area, there isn’t the focus and attention being placed upon this lower area like there is in terms of all that slopes around it, and yet it seems to be getting all of the same benefit without the effort.
Well, initially, like I say, I own a piece of property that’s on the slope, but maybe based on the fact of realizing what it’s like in this other more grounded, centered place of this area, and how it is greener, and more plush, without all the effort to water, I end up buying this, or end up doing a trade or something, so I end up with the property.
Now at first I’m a bit concerned because I’m thinking, you know, with all this run off drainage coming from these other properties, will that be too much for the center’s area? And will it sour the soil after a point in time, which can happen if the water ends up pooling down there and standing around? But it never seems to be the case. It seems to absorb just at the right amount all the time. It seems to be balanced, and the grass is really, really green.
And I’ve acquired this because I’ve gotten tired of struggling with the effort that’s had to be expended on property that had all of this to have to go through, to contend with the slope, and issues, obstacles, of this adjacent area. And I made the transition because I know that this other center property has more potential and consistency, so I’m glad to make the trade because this property seems to benefit vicariously from the care and attention placed upon the surrounding environment. Why go to all this effort on this slope property with all these obstacles, when I don’t have to fight anything?
So of course to get to this point I had to go beyond this idea that it was too easy or something like that and, therefore, there needed to be barriers or something, or otherwise what could happen would be too much and sour things. And, in taking this on, there’s something more that’s expected of me. Maybe I didn’t have to go through all of the steps and process and efforts like those did to kind of keep the slopes and the hillsides green, but I still have to develop this, you know. In other words, even though it’s able to just be, I still have to develop it.
And so I have to take a portion of the property on the corner, which is a wonderful green spot, just a natural grace or beauty that it carries, and on this spot I have to sacrifice that greenness and put a garbage can there, for pickup by the garbage man. And so it’s on the edge, and by putting a garbage can there there’s going to be traffic going back and forth to that particular spot, and it’s going to be sacrificed in that way. But it’s part of developing a property.
In other words, it’s a good problem, in a way, to have because it means the property, by putting something connective like a garbage can there, where there’s comings and goings from the outside to pick up and to relate to this place, it’s seen or recognized more.
So as I contemplate what has to be done, I’m again amazed at how much I seem to favorably benefit, in this overall way, from the surrounding condition that just rubs off on me.
The meaning of this dream is I am describing a scenario in life in which I am a vicarious beneficiary of the environment in which I am situated. The atmosphere is such that I benefit as if in the best of all worlds. Whatever my neighbors do to enhance the quality of the area enhances where I am at effortlessly.
The reason it works out that way is I am not carrying any restrictions. I am receptive, but not overly so. I am never overwhelmed. I am not ungrateful, and I know how to appreciate the benefits I readily receive, and I know how to conduct myself as a good neighbor, and gentleman, in terms of plugging into this community.
I am able to do so without drawing undue attention to myself. In other words, this property just is and most people don’t realize. Everyone seems to think you have to do this, that, or the other. So I just do this, and a concern I carry from having gotten so centrally situated is if I take this on in some esteemed way never factors in, never enters my mind.
The deeper meaning is I’ve come to know the true meaning of naturalness. Naturalness is a flow that accrues effortlessly based upon the day-to-day benefits that take place in an overall beingness. Location is everything, and I am situated in the heart of it all. I am grounded, but not overly so. Everything I need is there in the right proportionalities. My challenge is to make the best use of it gracefully. That’s the meditation dream. It’s a good dream.
