s-l300We know that dream symbolism is a language all its own. And if we are able to learn to translate that language, the information available to us in our dreams becomes dramatically more detailed and usable. Here is a great example of this: just the opening setup of a dream, the time, the place, and the characters, all contribute to creating the backdrop for an internal conversation that is meant to benefit us, and give us an insight into what we are processing in our life. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Carol: Okay, so here’s the first. So I’m in a beautiful house with very, very large windows and a lake. And I have a monkey, a baby monkey, and I also have puppies around me, but really the monkey I’m holding.

John: Let’s just stop right there. I’ll explain a little bit of the symbolism. So, the large windows in the house have two meanings. One meaning is, window like that, is like a type of illusionary veil. It’s like an illusionary veil, but you can see out of it so the flip side of that is that it’s meant, when you break that, to have a greater perspective of sight.

And then when you have the lake itself out front, a lake represents a quality of stillness. In a Rumi poem, when you have a wind that blows over the lake, that causes the waves, that causes a froth, that froth, then, is considered a vibration. And that vibration then rises up, and that becomes something in manifestation, that can rise up to even be a human being, meaning a vibration that has to live itself out is the implication of that.

So when you see the lake you are seeing something that is meant to reach a point of stillness. Now you have a quality that’s jumping around inside of you, that keeps this from being like a literal thing for you – and it’s the monkey. You like the monkey. The monkey is your trickster.

Now how is it that you see the monkey? That’s how I would say it, but the monkey means something even more for you. How do you see the monkey?

Carol: Actually, when you said that, it made me laugh because I think you got the feeling of it. In the dream I just loved him.

John: That’s correct. I know that. You love the monkey, and somehow letting go of the monkey, integrating this monkey into yourself, the vibratory beingness of this monkey into yourself, this is an aspect of shamanism.

Shamans believe that a person can benefit if they can catch up with their animal spirit. And a shaman believes that each person has a particular given loudness of an animal spirit, maybe a person is an eagle, or he’s a lion or something, and that if you can access the vibration of that animal spirit you can use that vibration in which to learn. In other words, it has a kind of prima materia effect, a lower-self prima materia effect, in terms of helping you transform.

But instead of it just floating around in there and being part of you, that’s kind of, okay, this is my personality and you haven’t caught up with the whole fullness of that characteristic. Instead of it floating around like that, a shaman believes that you take and you bring that to a real loud epiphany and then you can use that as a seeing tool.

In other words, you’re seeing through the eyes of the monkey, or seeing through the eyes of the lion. And so that’s why you have such symbolism that comes down from things like there’s medicine cards, don’t use them as medicine cards, but just use the meaning behind each animal. And the very best descriptions of the meanings behind each animal is brought through from Native Americans that used to relate and, as a culture, was closer to the naturalness of the outer; like a horse represents power, just to give you an idea.

Everything represents something in terms of an animal essence inside of you. To me, I infer the monkey as representing something of a bit of a trickster inside of you, which can cause you to vacillate from a deeper clarity. And that trickster is important. That trickster is important because, as you bring that quality to you, it actually helps you. It has a lower self negative side. It has a higher self positive side in that you bring that to a depth of wholeness inside of yourself, and then you can see with that. In other words, the trickster doesn’t confuse you in relationship to the expanse looking out the window at the quality of the lake. You can feel then the dance of the trickster, and you can use that as a medium. In other words, it’s a type of lower-self vibratoriness.

And the lake represents a higher-self total stillness, if you are able to be totally still as a lake. And in that lake you put a drop into that lake; you cannot pull that same drop out again because it’s in the wholeness. And yet the dancing around of the monkey is still separate from that wholeness of that lake, so it’s a type of vibratory state, thus a kind of trickster.

And you go through the vibratory states to get to the stillness. And so you have the stillness that’s meant to emerge, you have big windows that you can peer out into the wholeness of things, and then you’ve got the louder, louder thing, that’s why you love it, that’s why you really like it, lower-self trickster. You like this part of yourself.

It’s okay, and you should, like this part of yourself, but this doesn’t carry the final word on things. It’s just a quality that you can let go to. I’ll give you a similar thing here. It’s very similar to like, let’s say I’ve had just a super, super active day, and so I’m going to sit down and I’m going to try to meditate. Now I don’t know what meditation is, other than the fact that I hit a stillness. Now if I have this monkey energy jumping around inside of me, my thoughts are going wild about this, that, and the other and I’m trying to ponder and figure this out, and then having to sort this out in the heart in terms of where this is meaningful, and where this isn’t meaningful. Then I’m not going to hit the stillness.

The lake is that stillness. And yet if I don’t have that other jumping around, if I don’t have that, then nothing is going on. Then I kind of sit in a subjective state. In the, I think the name of the book is Kingdom of Man, the Ibn Arabi book, the scribe, the thing that goes back and forth that’s always right, in other words the monkey is always right in the highest level of seeing him, it goes back and forth, and that’s what that scribe is, that monkey is that scribe for you, or the scribe is that monkey for you. However you want to say that. It’s very interesting.

house-collapsepNo matter how well intentioned we are as we make our spiritual journey, there will come a point where we have to break through some spiritual illusions that we have held as we made our way. It’s natural because we can’t truly understand the way of something until we get deeper into it, when we are able to say, “Aha, so that’s how it is.” This dream shows this process in the dreamer, where a meeting with the queen awaits, but first the “family house” has to be torn down to make way for what needs to be built in the next phase. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: Then I have a dream in which there’s someone I’ve known since childhood, who’s planning her wedding, and I’m trying to facilitate. The fiancé is around, and other friends are around, and initially I can only do so much because at some point, around the time of the wedding, I have to go to England to do something with the queen there, go to court, do something.

So I’m doing what I can, but in the process of planning her wedding she’s getting really neurotic, even driving the fiancé nuts. At one point he comes to lay down next to me. He’s like just looking for some affection, or some kind of connection, and then that makes her nuts. I’m just trying to keep everything neutral, but getting a little fed up with the whole thing, too.

But it feels like her getting mad at me kind of gives her the energy to get refocused and start working again on what needs to be accomplished for the wedding. On the other hand, because she’s mad at me, now you feel like she doesn’t really even want me at the wedding – even though I found out I’m not going to be out of town after all.

Then I turn around and I go over to look at the house where I’ve been living, which is my family house, and it feels like I’ve been living on the lower levels of the house. In the upper levels are some monks who have been living there. And as I look at the house, something causes it all to start collapsing from the top where all the monks live. And it’s just kind of flowing down through, kind of like when you see a type of flow you get with a landslide.

It’s not like I have a sense anybody’s necessarily hurt, but obviously I can’t go back to the house. And this is causing someone who’d been observing the whole dream all the time to kind of reach out to me a little bit, instead of get wrapped up in all the types of strange emotions that have been going on with everybody else.

But I also have to get somewhere, so I go down an alleyway, or I’m going to down a street and I’ll be coming back to the house but, as I go down the street, I suddenly see that running rampant over the street are these prehistoric animals. Some of them look like small dinosaurs, and some just look like crocodiles, as they kind of sweep with their big tail down the street and things it’s like then they try to harass or get some of the people, or animals, or things that are going down there.

And one of them, particularly, a smaller one, starts to kind of want to chase me as I have to go down the street to get to where I’m getting, but at this point it seems like I really am kind of fed up with some stuff like that because I seem to pick up some small little log or something and I think I chop off its horn, or parts of its tail, or something. It’s something that discourages it anyway from continuing to bug me – just because I feel like I have to get past that street.

I don’t particularly really want to hurt the animals, even though they are kind of rampaging, but you have to not have them creeping up on your back, or trying to take a bite out of you so you have to whack them.

John: That last part is kind of a way that you have become kind of indulged, or indoctrinated, by some pattern that’s ancient and prehistoric in your past, that comes up and interrupts or interferes with the unfoldment of a process.

Now the process that’s unfolding has both a top and a bottom to it. The top of it is the queen: that’s the area in which something is in a greater realization in terms of something so much more. The bottom is that which is trying to be born, or married or whatever, that’s trying to awaken. And that part that is trying to awaken is personal, so that’s like in life. That’s something in life, and the queen in something of the higher self somewhere else.

So the part that’s trying to awaken has a precociousness about it because it sees this sort of thing as something that is happening with itself, and so what it’s doing is dwelling upon that in a kind of separate motif way so that when the conditions around it do not comport with it, it gets a little peevish. The part of yourself that knows that there has to be so much more, that yields to a greater importance, doesn’t really know what that greater importance is. That’s why it’s just referred to as the queen, that it has to do something for the queen. However, that process of serving the higher self leads to the tumbling down of a way of being that is meant to go away.

And what tumbles down is all these monks that tumble down, collapse in the house, and on the other side of that is what is real. See, that breaks the spiritual illusion and everything like that. So what you’re doing is you’re playing with this dichotomy between a part of yourself that sees itself waking up, coming into knowing something and realizing something, and in that regard you can be very possessive, and protective, and peevish if it interferes with what you perceive as a process.

But then you feel inside of yourself something that is speeded up. By speeded up means that it’s traveling somewhere, meaning that it is going to a greater beingness, that being the queen, and you’re trying to reconcile the two parts. Well, the carrying on by that which is getting married is louder. You have your excuses in terms of a responsibility somewhere else to the queen. You put the two together so that neither of those occur, neither of those become a predominant loudness, and you collapse the house, you collapse all of that which is meant to be in a stillness so that there is this greater overall wholeness that is there only.

There’s no house anymore. The idea of the house had something to do with the process of working with a higher self and a lower self, working with the queen, working with the getting married, and then when all of that goes away you just have a wholeness. Everything comes tumbling down and what remains is what is real. In other words, all the monks came tumbling down, too. That’s quite a dream isn’t it?

Now that importance all happened in the first two thirds of the dream. The other one third I was almost going to say hey, it’s over, and then I started to see that’s a throwaway. And no it’s not, it wasn’t a throwaway. In the past I’m inclined to treat it like it’s a throwaway because it’s all I can do to hold onto the forces to something else that’s louder and more important, but this was very important too because what this did is it pointed out what it is that you have done, over the course of time, that tends to keep you from recognizing this part that is so obvious.

In other words, it’s like your nature going all the way back to prehistoric time has gotten caught up in having to be involved with, in terms of an effect upon you, that has caused you to be thrown off and off to one side instead of catching this schematic that is quickened. Like in the first two thirds you can easily do this step back into this other that has its peculiarities yet, because your memories are so based upon those peculiarities – even though you may not have caught up with all of those memories, because like your dream is indicating it goes way, way back like prehistoric even – it has created an indulgence of your nature, in an abstracted way from the schematic awareness, and awakening, to something so much more, reaching for the higher self, or trying to awaken through the outer to any kind of spiritual conceptualization, all the Buddhas come tumbling down.

That’s the chemistry at play, and then the layer over the top of that was this whole background that you called prehistoric even, that basically held your primary attention instead of your pristine attention. It held your primary outer attention that kept you in a particular kind of trance.

aus2In the prior dream (see A Tilt in the Process), Jeane was struggling with being able to take on an energy that was haywire, as seen in the image of people shooting shotguns that might hit her house – and Jeane tries to stabilize the situation. Here, in her next dream, the struggle still exists, yet the imagery has shifted: the house is overrun with animals. Again she is trying to bring order to the chaos. But it shows how the ongoing process of our dreams helps us sort things out on a deeper level, and our unconscious will keep trying until we get it. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

Jeane: The next dream I just remember flashes of. It’s like I’ve gone to stay somewhere in a building, some low buildings, with female members of my family – like my grandmother comes, I think my mother’s in the background, I forget who else.

But what seems to happen is every time I… the place really needs to be cleaned up, and there are animals that have moved in, so it’s like every time I open a door, or go into an area, I talk with them about we’re going to have to clean it up. But meanwhile we just have to stay there the night, but I’ll open up a door and there’ll be some animals there, and it might be turtles, or another time I open up a door and a dog has just had puppies on the front stoop, and then there’s a chicken with chicks.

It’s just like wherever I look there’s something going on with the animals having taken over a bit, that we’re going to have to straighten out. Then I think I had a flash of somebody going by in a parade, but again it feels like some animal was involved.

John: What you’re showing is that these lower-self traits of one’s nature… First of all you have to back it up from the standpoint that the feminine is at home in manifestation, in other words, Mother Earth and all of that is her domain.

And so that is why in dreaming women tend to dream more about animals than guys do. Guys have dreams that are more involved with chase scenes and episodes of missing out on this, that, or the other. But the feminine dreams more in terms of the animal kingdom because she more closely identifies with all of those various vibrations. She more naturally is closer to that.

And so what you’re dreaming about is, in terms of you being the zookeeper of all of those animal traits and qualities and characteristics, you’re finding that things are all over the place. It’s not running straight according to how it can be if you are holding your place in the overall, properly.

In other words, the way this corresponds to the first dream is that the animal energies are generally associated with aspects of lower-self energy. I mean, they are higher-self, too, but the imbalance of such a thing is a lower-self trait. And so in order for the higher-self qualities of those energetics to be taken in, to be appreciated by the crown of creation, a human being, they have to be, as you would say, straightened up, or in a natural unfoldment.

But what you have here is you have it all in a state of disarray, from animal to animal to animal to animal, and so when it’s like that, you can’t do anything then in terms of trying to give something or be a particular way that facilitates the imbalance of the masculine – because you don’t have your natural inclination to the characteristics and the traits that are all very, very subtle that are part of the genetic makeup of all that there is. You’ve got all of that in terms of on a deeper level your responsibility towards all of that; you have it in a bit of a state of disarray.

And so this adds information to the first dream. The information that it adds is that when you take and find yourself seeing that… and this is very deep and subtle this vibration you’re carrying there, but it’s kind of like in a denser way the way it comes across is the feminine feels or sees herself to be taken advantage of or abused, the scorn effect that can come from that can wreak havoc over everything in the surrounding environment.

And in the case of scorn and that coming across it’s usually directed at the masculine in some fashion. There’s some flash-out that happens towards the masculine. It’s like divorces and stuff are very strange and you can often see the guy look like he has gone nine-tenths insane when he had been described as a pretty nice guy up to a particular point, and then all of a sudden something… he’s seen as a bit haywire or a bit off.

It’s almost like spells are easy to cast in that regard when something is towards something that isn’t quite right, or is ungrounded. And that starts, that whole process unfolds, and behind that whole process is the fact that the feminine nature then lets go of a kind of orientation and responsibility that it has towards its understanding of the subtler energies. The subtler energies that are largely invisible even inside of her, but she still has a linkage and connection to it. And so instead of that unfolding more naturally, it tends to be in a state of disarray.

So the degree to which she reacts about something in terms of it not going in accordance with some sort of latent predilection, is the degree to which she destroys her own beastiality of her own nature, a type of beastiality though that she is in conformity with, as opposed to in a state where it is all in disarray. She needs the conformity, the raw energy of the beast energy world. She pulls the subtle vibrations from within that, that each characteristic represents, and is able to make that alive and knowable to life itself, to the masculine.

It’s part of bringing the inner into the outer. And so if she has an attitude about something, then that whole part is all in the state of confusion. So how is it possible for any kind of inner coming into outer alignment to take place? Isn’t that an interesting dream?
