TanedSome ancient civilizations, before the rat race, knew that, energetically, hour by hour things were changing and shifting. What this meant is that they would be aware of these energetic shifts, and optimize what they did at any given moment, whether it was a time to be together or alone, a time to be more physical or more cerebral, a time to make decisions or to let things be. In other words, they lived in connection with what was energetically supported, and responded to the nudgings of the unseen. As we let go of our desire for forced, external outcomes, we can begin to be with the possibilities of the universal. Jeane: Before I went to bed last night, I had been watching some episodes of The Good Wife on TV, and they want her to run for state’s attorney general in Chicago – but then there’s all these conflicts because she’s had a client who’s a criminal and stuff like that.

So it felt like I was dreaming about that, like I was her, and everybody was suddenly scrutinizing every single thing you did. And there’d be these things you’d weigh up on the right, and things you’d weigh up on the left. It went back and forth, and it just created this really restless feeling of what it felt like when you had everybody scrutinizing every single thing, and weighing it, and not even weighing it correctly, or seeing it correctly, and my having to try to sort that out and kind of take a stance somewhere, at some point, or else if you don’t you have everyone just tossing you around.

So it just created a very restless night.

John: Well, the theme of the dreaming had to do with a principle called awake. Actually, that’s a movie, and it’s basically the story of Yogananda. And so the principle, however, is the theme that you’re finding in your dream, is that “awake” is not where you take and you suddenly get to a point where you’re on top of everything that’s going on around you, so that you have a certain kind of hypertensiveness, and an accentuated consciousness, in that regard, with respect to the pros and cons of things.

Awake is a principle where you come to let go of everything, where deep down you know that what is happening around you is happening for reasons that are more than you can comprehend. And so it’s not the end all, be all, of the world when things happen, and, thus, you’re able to be in a surrendered state, and you’re able to let things go.

It doesn’t mean that you’re not aware, so to speak, of things going on. You just don’t go carrying it around on your sleeves in such a way so that you create a neurosis, in terms of your overall beingness. That’s what it means to die before you die, in yet another way of saying it, which means that you can go about in life, and things can be happening, and you’re not sitting there knee-jerking with an opinion about this, and an opinion about that, because you know that everything is working something out in terms of a karmic unfoldment.

That’s kind of what it was about there, was you were looking at yourself, noticing that to indulge in something perception-wise, or whatever, in the outer, will just simply throw you around – because it is based upon the idea that something else is better, or something else should be happening.

But in the outer as there’s an old expression, just like you die before you die is one expression, is kind of a Sufi expression, there is an expression in the Bible, too, in that it says, vanity of vanities, everything is vanity, meaning that everything that happens, no matter what it looks like, whatever the appearances are, it is all something that is working itself out into a state of letting go of an emptiness.

And, that for that to happen, you have to be able to be at ease with your environment, with the surroundings, knowing that that’s not the end all, be all, that there is something of a depth of a stillness of an innerness that is a greater, permeated, inner being – in terms of who you are.
