Good Housekeeping

John: In this dream, I’m in an area that is going through some building renovations. The workers who are on the job seem to be doing it in great haste because they are leaving the walls all soapy and smeared.

Feeling the job can’t be left in that condition, I go to the sink and rinse out the sponges that they bring back. The sponges are all full of soap from having been used to wipe down the walls, so I’m rinsing them out and handing them back to the workers.

There is a woman who has an apartment that’s being affected by this work, and she is patiently waiting. I know it would be nice if she could get in to her apartment. She has been wiping down another area, outside of this one, that apparently has been affected as well.

The key in this dream is that I need to stay focused on rinsing the sponges. There’s a lot of talk and activity going on, and it’s almost too much. In order to get the walls wiped down and keep them clean, I have to keep moving to get the sponges properly rinsed out and ready for the next section.

At the same time I haven’t yet figured out how to accommodate the woman’s need to rinse her sponge, as I’m busy doing that for everyone working in my area.

I think the meaning and significance of this dream is that it’s indicating that an issue has gotten too big. There’s a way of jumping so deeply into things in life that we can reach a point where we’re no longer able to take care of the clean up, or management, of it. When that happens, things begin to get chaotic and out of control.

This dream seems to indicate that that’s all there is to the problem – it’s something that can be cleaned up or put back in order with a little effort and attention. Currently, it’s being done hastily and left in a mess, but that can be overcome.

On a level closer to my waking life, I suppose this scenario could represent a project I have become involved with across the street, where there’s a proposal to put in a business that would involve venting the building and will involve disturbing others who are opposed to it.

This project will create issues that will require a certain cleaning up of the energetic, because it could violate the interests and expectations of others. The way the whole idea for this project was presented, it threw off the balance of things. In other words, it put suds in the works. What needs to happen is for everything to be kept in balance in terms of the appearance and needs of others.

This is a good example of how waking life can be reflected in our dream life, and the issues that confront us each day can be given a fuller picture, and lead us to greater clarity, in our efforts to navigate our life. If we listen to our inner guidance, many things will become clear.

Connect Spiritually, Act Locally

John: We saw in the first, partial, dream that you were holding a space in the overallness (see Island Resort). That’s an aspect of the feminine to hold and be a container of something. The feminine does it without action, which is a more masculine aspect. Yet you are trying to figure out something to do with the masculine element (the male friend).

When the space you are holding becomes touched by a degree of the masculine, it comes into a setting, which we see in the second dream imagery. This setting is an island resort, but the real setting you are trying to reach is a specific place that’s difficult to get to and that most people don’t bother going to anymore.

So you overcome the obstacles to reach this town, and you find that, because it is somewhat isolated, it has a specific nature to it. It’s easy to feel yourself different or distinct from the “vibration” of this town. You have come from one energetic state into another, but you are not supposed to let go of the first state.

Something moved you to come to that town, and now you have to meet the requirements of that new place. That’s when we see you buying clothes from the local shop; what better way to fit in than to put on the local attire?

What is happening here is that you are still holding onto the first state, yet adapting to the frequency of the new place you find yourself in. You are bringing what you have on an inner level (first dream) into the outer life (second dream), without compromising the first connection, but also without upsetting the natural balance of where you are.

You are fitting into the flow, and drawing no attention to yourself, because we see that all the clothes you purchased fit just right.

But this is not a role you are playing – that’s a more masculine approach. The masculine moves about by creating the appearance of involvement and connectivity. The feminine adopts the natural profile – she takes on the overallness because she is a container of things. She recognizes how to make everything naturally fit.

The point here is that when you are able to hold onto the first, inner energetic and then carry it into the outer world portrayal, without upsetting the balance of things, then that inner essence can come through you into life.

In other words, you aren’t coming across as something alien to the “locals,” or someone that they have to figure out or that makes them uneasy. You come across naturally, and in that way you’re bringing what is necessary down through you and into life.

So you are honoring the space by not disturbing it, but you are also radiating an energetic into it. That’s how the inner is best brought through into the outer – by becoming a part of it. And it’s an act of service that humans are meant to perform in their lives – that is the “payment” we must be willing to make.

When we can bring the inner realms into our outer lives, it’s actually a form of healing for you and the world.

We Are What We Radiate

John: I stayed up late last night because when I got back home there was a letter that needed my response. At some point, when it got really late, I began to think that this work could affect my sleep. But at the time, I thought doing it then would get it out of my system. It reminds me of your dream yesterday, which touched on this idea of not taking things so personally.

So I got caught up in the process of sending emails in response to this letter. What was really interesting is that while I was doing that, I was also thinking that the secret is to figure out how to conduct myself so that I’m not feeding an energetic animosity into what I’m doing, because I know that will embed itself into the physicality of things.

I thought handling the letter before bed had dispelled everything from my system, but I woke up still feeling it in my energetic. It just shows that when you carry a certain energetic or attitude, no matter how you carry it, you release it into the ethers of life.

A teacher used to describe how she would handle such situations. She could be fuming, but she always followed the rule that you don’t do anything that will upset another person. Instead she would flood them with a certain energetic, and then stand back and watch how the mirroring of that energy worked in them.

She said that you can reach a point where you look at yourself more or less through others, because in a sense you are no longer there (in a personal way). Then you can take and radiate this energetic outward and, instead of being caught up in the issue, a number of things can happen if the other person is receptive and responsive to it.

They can take on more light and glow, or it could also be a trigger that throws them around a bit. The average person releases a personal reaction because some part of their psychology has been swept up by the event. But this teacher knew she could not make progress that way.

Of course it requires the ability to be detached from the situation – to carry a perspective of a higher purpose. By her basically being absent from the situation, the other person can see, energetically, their own energy reflected back to them. That’s why it is compared to a mirror image of themselves.

Now what they see and feel of themselves might be good, or it might be too much for them to handle. People are not accustomed to a process like that, but at least what is being offered in that moment is a glimpse of the Divine, rather than  personal involvement which can deepen the separation and agitation that people get caught up in.

The theory, and the point behind all of this, is to be able to realize this aspect of life, and to reach this quality inside oneself. Then, what a person radiates into the world energetically can change the quality of things little by little. They can cause an energy that has been on a certain track to be changed, rerouted so to speak. Then for the next 1000 years it is different from what it was because an aspect of the Divine has been pulled into it.

We aren’t going to be doing that if we don’t speed up. Speeding up has to do with getting outside of the density of our physical (material) view of the world, and the reactivity (personal involvement) that we carry into everything we do. It means we have to be able hold onto a higher energetic level. That, of course, is why we practice repetition, and meditation, and all of these tools that are meant to help us deepen our connection to something more – to a greater energetic.

One way of looking at it is that you aren’t even getting spiritual or anything, because this energy does not belong to you. But you just have this higher energy coming through you, and it comes through for the whole of life. You still, as an individual, have all of your own nuances and mannerisms that are ingrained from your life, but you somehow are able to step away from all of that and bring this higher energetic quality through anyway.

That is one of the most important aspects of being in service – changing the energy we put into the world. If, like most people, we impose our own personal feelings and emotional behaviors, then the situations we find ourselves in will stay exactly in the condition they are currently in.

If we, instead, bring this other quality through, it can change life, the way life is meant to be changed. That is what it’s like to really be in this process.
