8362229This discussion is a continuation of the areas opened up in our previous post (see To Do and To Be). Here John describes how we can learn to let go, and how we can use the in-breath and the out-breath as our connection. Otherwise we are always trying to solve things, or fix them, by “doing” things in the outer world. But we should be looking at shifting ourselves first, and then seeing what the world we find requires of us. (At the end of this post there are instructions and a link to download this recording to your computer.)

John: There was a woman that had this dream – she’s very elevated in Taoism. She communicates with a teacher in China from time to time. She’s practically blind, and yet she somehow feels her way along.

And she had this dream in which she has a couple of dogs, and a camel, and the dogs and the camel cavort and get along fine. The camel represents her stubbornness, the dogs represent something that’s a friendship that she’s able to relate to, and thus she’s able to shift in the environment that she’s in.

That’s her challenge. Now what kind of shift is she doing? She’s shifting in terms of the overallness. She’s learning to accept the perseverances of how it is and what it is that she has to go through in terms of being totally blind – and in an accepting overall way. Otherwise she would have the commotion, the intensity of the camel that spits and carries on and can be cantankerous. But what we have here is a camel completely enjoying itself being in the presence of her two dogs.

Which means she has to quit brutalizing herself to try to figure out how to cope, when she can have a sense that can know in a capacity in which she can feel herself. So, how is it that she attempts to heal her sight understanding this principle? She has one eye that she can kind of see out of a little bit, and another eye that she can’t see anything out of hardly, barely can see, so she puts a patch on her good eye.

Which means that she’s basically virtually blind in order to invoke a quality of a letting go so that she knows how to move about so that she can sense things in the outer. And oddly enough it also helps improve her vision in the bad eye.

I don’t know whether it’s supposed to work that way or not, but that’s what she does. Now what she did you could say, you know, if she didn’t let go, if she didn’t intertwine naturally, if she was continually trying to fight things and sort it out or something, she would be in the camel vibration of a camel per se that spits and is cantankerous, and uptight, and struggling and a little pissed at the way something is.

And so in her dream she shifted this twice. First she had the camels and the dogs, but then she took it from that environment into the open south, into the wide open south, as opposed to in the restrictions of the mountains, in, you know, the cold.

What she was doing there was indicating that she’s shifting. She is going through this process of shifting inside. Now, she would never be able to make the shift inside if she was constantly trying to figure out the dynamics of how does she cope in the mountains and in the obstacles there before her?

But instead she lets go to the intertwined overallness and learns to hear that and know that. It’s not a hearing per se, it’s a knowing, it’s a natural knowing. And how do you naturally know? You naturally know based upon the fact that you are created out of everything, so you’re intertwined with it all. And what facilitates that knowingness? It’s your breath, it’s your breath.

Let’s say she’s trying to go to a bus stop and she can’t see her way along – but she can sense kind of where the bus needs to be or whatever. She has some sense. How does she have that sense? It’s a quality of her in-breath. She uses a focus with her out-breath, she holds the attention, she breathes in the atmosphere, and she kind of knows where she’s at even in the darkness.

Now she’s not going to know that if the out-breath comes down and then there’s the reaction that, oh my gosh, you know, there’s this, this, this, and this and she’s trying to solve it in an outer capacity way. She’s solving it from an inner awakened quality of her beingness.

So like in your dream, you’re still suffering when you’re trying to deal with this or that or the other of the trash heap. It’s all trash. And you’re part of the trash, yes, but you just let go of it. You know, you don’t try to determine how it’s gauged or stacked or sorted or anything like that. You don’t reject it. You don’t put it in your pocket either.

You are just in it. You are that. It’s not separate from you. That’s the key thing is through our senses we see everything as separate from us. But on an inner level of where the inner is coming in there can’t be that separation because the inner that is coming in is depicting something else. The outer that is a separation is the reflection – that’s the best that we can do to make out of the inner because the inner is too much.

Maybe a better way of looking at it is to say, okay, the soul is huge, it’s humongous, it’s the universe, and we have these outer experiences because the soul is also having to contend with the gravity of the fact of the human body.

Well, you have both don’t you? But the soul, in its universal context, takes into account everything because it is everything. The person that is personal in the physical is constantly looking at the myriad of things around, and can actually get caught in the literal attempt to sort something out, or to figure out how to distinguish themselves in relationship to everything else that’s around them.

But a true letting go on an inner level you, back to the breath, breathe in that wholeness, breathe in that wholeness, or otherwise the seed thought of something coming in gets lost in trying to correlate it in relationship to the outer reflective, and so then you’re trying to scale your way out of the dilemma by a sorting out.

Just think of the significance of outer to inner, or inner into outer, and realize that every time that you find yourself struggling in some capacity, or having to sort something out, or reverbing, or getting exhausted energetically in terms of what and how it is that you’re feeling things around you, just realize that that has to do with the fact that you are trying to make some sort of outer resolution.

And that the inner resolution doesn’t ever have that. The inner resolution puts you into a naturalness with the wholeness. And it’s really, really hard to catch up with what that naturalness is because your mind can only go so far, and your mind will say that this is rational and that’s rational, and this is logic and that’s logical.

That’s why it was so hard for Moses when he was being in the presence of Khidr, and Khidr was going out and doing these absolutely, literally, outrageous things that, from an outer perspective, no good person should ever do. And yet Khidr was looking at, and breathing in, the essence of what was unfolding in a bigger context way and wasn’t in the black-and-white, or the literal of how it is that you take and try to sort something out.

Moses couldn’t stay still as much as Khidr warned him. He says, you know, “You need to abide, you need to not say anything, you need to just let what happens happen. Can you walk with me in that capacity? Can you stay with me in that capacity?” And Moses was stuck because in his slower mannerism of the outer, he needed to make sense out of things.

So you know that’s an interesting dream because that’s a dream that puts you into a state. The way this tends to work with me is, let’s say I have a meditation dream and just like maybe you would hear what we’re talking about and that would set something in motion.

Well, let’s say I have a meditation dream and it sets something in motion. Now my understanding of that dream is apt to go, you know just like too bookish or something, is apt to go off in some capacity or be taken wrong. Fortunately, then, I might have a sleep dream that will then take and go in and make the corrective.

So the dream that you had was you took what was said, you went off and started playing with this too literally. In other words, something about you was engaging it too literally A nd so in your sleep dream you had the means of noticing that, finding out about that, getting the memo of that, by dreaming the trash heap and all of that – and how do you take all that in?

Think of it in terms of what trash is. Trash is a letting go. Does it mean that there’s no trash then? No, it’s still all there but you let go. That was the little missing piece. As one is grasping and coming to understand it then you always have the way that you bifurcated something, and then you get this little missing piece that pulls it together.

It’s like your higher-self talking to you, saying, okay, but that’s not quite so. And then it throws that at you. You know, there’s one way of looking at it that you can beat yourself up over it, and then there’s another way of looking at it and saying wow, that sure is nice that it takes its time to point something out like that.

And just imagine the crazy image that it used: garbage. What is the significance of garbage? Well, you let go of your garbage, but that doesn’t mean it disappears. So, if you have garbage you don’t try to take and sort the garbage out.

But what does everybody do and what is garbage? Well garbage is the sorting out and everything that goes on as you try to function in the outer according to what you consider the best means for coping. As opposed to hearing the inner and then laughing at yourself fumbling about in the outer, it being the peculiar dynamic of where you’re at in relationship to the inner.

Things do kind of get a little better when you understand the inner. Which means that you’re receptive more and more and more to an innerness, and when you’re receptive more and more and more to the innerness your breath automatically corresponds as well. Like if you’re going along and something bothers you, if you were to notice how this correlates to the breath this would have had your breath tightening up. You wouldn’t have just breathed it all in.

And you could’ve just breathed it all in and let go of it and laughed at it. In other words, the vibration came down and then there’s a way that that vibration touched something and opened something up. And to the degree to which it caused we’ll call it like liquid light, liquid light meaning something that you can’t see, it’s not tangible yet somehow or another you can feel it. You know, it’s hard to describe how Shaw portrayed this. He just took and he went, ha-ha-ha, so loud that I had to turn the darn thing down as I was listening to it.

And then he says, “Okay, now stop and feel that inside yourself instead, as the ha-ha-ha” and then okay and then he says, “Now breathe it, now sweep it and breathe it back in, just breathe that vibration that got stirred like that, breathe that back in.” And when you did that then you had a complete breath.

Then you weren’t as inclined to short out. Then you weren’t inclined to be reactive. Then you were more capable of taking and dealing with something that hit as a reflective, that got your attention in a particular way, and that vied for your heart, vied for your nature, vied for the essence of who you are in a limited capacity – and you can feel it as dense – in a denser capacity, and now you are troubling yourself because of the denser capacity as opposed to the other that breathes something in and is just naturally effused in a lightness.
