Becoming a Part of It

Jeane: My dream last night started out with me wandering through the desert with a group. There are people that are guiding us through – they’re like Bedouins, except that they’re wearing indigo colored robes.

Initially, we just follow them. As we get deeper into the desert, there are areas with rising rock walls that we go between. I move closer to our guides, getting right in behind them. When I do, it suddenly feels like I’m under their protection, or it feels like I’m one of them. I don’t have the sense of being separate.

I can feel that I have a certain protection from them that allows me to stay out where they are, even though I’m not a Bedouin (or whichever tribe this group is from).

As the dream goes on, we come to an area where there are caves, and I think people are flying overhead in helicopters and hunting. It’s almost like there are military exercises going on or something, so it’s important that people know who’s on their side and who’s not.

At this point I realize I can make certain sounds, and even run through the caves, and be recognized by the Bedouins and even by some of the people in the helicopters. I can also find my way back to the group or be separated out if that’s what’s needed.

I have to remember the songs, and also remember the way back and forth. It seems like there has to be this form of signaling because otherwise the people flying above, and just seeing everyone in the desert, wouldn’t really be able to tell who was on their side or not.

John: The Bedouins, a nomadic desert tribe, represent, in this image, something that sits in this huge overall spaciousness – the open desert – and opens up perception and awareness. The Bedouins, as a tribe, also represent something connected into a period of time that stretches back thousands of years, flowing in an overallness in which very little has changed.

In coming to recognize this overallness, through this vibration inside you, you are also becoming aware of things that can cause you to get a little disoriented (feel hunted), in relationship to this greater overallness that has opened up. But you have your guides, and you’ve found, because you have a comfortability in Creation, that you can use songs to move about in order to make yourself known.

In other words, these songs or sounds create a connection, or a linkage, through which you can be just fine in this overall greater spaciousness, i.e., you can be just as at home in the desert as a Bedouin, knowing how to safely come and go.

In other words, you have found the means by which you can better appreciate this expanded space that you have opened up, which has an orientation to the past, and a sense of freedom. You have gained an understanding of your whereabouts within this space and, if in doubt, you have learned to use sound to orient yourself.

In a sense, you have proven that you are not an outsider in this greater space, but an accepted participant who belongs there. That’s an important idea in a spiritual journey: a human being who lets go of personal ego and cultural, planetary attachments, does so in an effort to join with something else, something much greater, which is already in progress.

The idea of joining an already ancient process, which is playing out at a universal level, requires that we humans get to know Its ways – that we learn to fit into It, and to be like It. It is a truth of the human journey that Creation will never exclude us from participating, but we can (and do) exclude ourselves by being out of alignment with its ways and purposes.

You Can’t Get There From Here

Jeane: In another dream, I’ve gone to work and I’m obviously the new person there. It’s an office setting and I have a male boss. A man and woman also work there.

I have two kittens in my apartment that are my responsibility. Sometimes my boss interferes, making it hard for me to take care of the kittens, so I’m usually under pressure to make time to be home for them, too.

Now and then my boss and I have some dialogue about this situation. At one point I have somewhere to go, so I leave the office and I head down a hill. But something is blocking access to the highway.

I then go into a cave that cuts through the mountain. It’s a detour and someone tells me that the cave is blocked at the other end. Then a woman comes and tells me that we can still make it through the cave.

She guides us, telling us exactly what we have to do: further into the cave there will be cones that have been put out and as we go by them we have to keep count until we reach a certain number. If we follow these instructions we’ll be able to get through and head to our destinations.

That’s all I remember.

John: On the surface, there’s a sense of confusion in this dream and yet, bewildering as it is, through this awkwardness a fundamental dilemma is portrayed.

In this image you are affected by an influence that keeps you from taking care of something that you carry as a responsibility. That influence is masculine, appearing in the form of your boss. What you carry as a responsibility has something to do with your home base (where the kittens are), but it’s pointing to a responsibility within yourself.

The theme here is about determining how one can hold an inner space. The problem with holding the space is that you’re divided between having to contend with or work within the requirements of your boss, who’s in one place (the office), and then there’s your responsibility at home (as in Creation), which is another place.

You haven’t figured out how to get the boss to take into account the fact that you have responsibilities at home. In order for this to work, in order for you to be settled in terms of what’s happening, you need to link these two together in terms of your beingness.

Because of this dichotomy, you’re not able to see how to proceed, i.e., the blocked road and the blocked tunnel. This shows that you’re running out of options in how to resolve this. It’s like being at one’s wits’ end.

It’s clear that the approaches you’re taking, which are solutions in the outer, aren’t going to cut it. You have to rely upon some inner help or guidance to make things work out.

And what is that guidance? What’s missing in all this is some vibratory, auric note that’s able to sweep through and pull it all together. You’re disconnected from your ability to resolve this dichotomy.

The only hope you have is for something to come help you. Whatever it is, it has to put you back in touch with a way of feeling the overall – that’s healing, that’s complete. As it is, you’re not able to bring the inner into the outer.

Jeane: But a woman does come with directions on how to navigate it.

John: That’s an inner guidance, or an inner knowingness that can help you. But your dream is portraying the outer dichotomy, in which there’s a gap and you’re unable to pull the two issues together. A tunnel cuts through a mountainside and mountains symbolically represent obstacles. You can’t solve it because you’re not reconciling the vibration.

In the second half of the dream you do get very specific directions and guidance, which comes from an even deeper inner level. And that’s how you’re meant to relate to what’s important. The closest that we can come to being able to hear that is to be able to nurture the sense of balance and knowingness that’s imbedded in our nature.

In other words, to know when something is awry by being able to hear that inside of us. Of course, on an outer level you’re not hearing it very well. You’re not reconciling the difference between your boss and your responsibilities, but on a deep inner level you are. This note, or linkage, or connection to a depth inside, can make the difference.

That Which is Given

John: I remember once (in my waking life) when I was at a spiritual program in another country and I was in great shape physically. I was playing ping-pong and there was a person there who wouldn’t accept defeat. He needed to step aside for the others waiting to play, but instead he says, “New game.”

He’d lost so I just reach back and serve the ping-pong ball so hard that it just whisked right by him. He didn’t even have a chance to swing it went by him so fast. I remember wondering, for a split second, whether the teacher was standing somewhere behind him watching because my serve was so amazing.

I mean, I could try that serve 100 times and I doubt that I would hit it so perfectly more than once. It had an amazing feeling to it. Well, actually, it was too bright for me. It lifted me energetically inside, but it wasn’t a sustainable energy, so I had a big let down. Then I was in a mood – a really weird state – and I couldn’t shake it.

So I walked around in this weird state, in a delirium where I avoided everyone. It was in the evening and it just so happened that I walked into an area where other people in the program were getting snacks.

I walked in, not looking left or right or seeing anything, and it happened that the teacher and one of the leaders of the group were sitting there. The teacher had his back to me. I see them and I turn to walk out because I don’t want to be seen in the condition I’m in. As soon as I turn, I feel myself healed. Something was just lifted and taken away.

I never forgot that. I thought it was amazing. The teacher felt it and knew it without turning to look. Whatever spell I was under was completely lifted.

Well, I think this is how one is compelled to live. That’s why you hear statements saying that when a person is bewildered, or can’t figure out what’s going on, that’s when they tend to be more real, or more conscious. That’s when they’re actually catching up with what is going on, because they’re in an open enough state where something more can be accessed, and in a spiritual journey it can often come through the teacher.

We then can get just what we need so that what is meant to transpire can transpire. If we were to look at it in a more mundane way, from the brain’s perspective, it would seem like an over-the-top idea, i.e., that it couldn’t possibly be that way.

But this guidance comes from another place – from outside of us, or through us. It’s in this sense that the human being can be understood as a co-creator. The need is invoked, and the guidance is compelled to turn up because of our linkage or connection to our higher selves and the universe.

Your dream (see The Big Screen) looked at the container quality of this, where you carry this great depth – the 20 or 30 monitors – but they only open up in relationship to what is compelled at a given point in time to open up. The need compels that which is given.

The feminine, which is naturally complete, has to somehow put herself within the greater depth (capacity), through which her need to accommodate it all invokes a touching (masculine) that can trigger even more of the depth to open up, i.e., more screens with more images can be handled.

We can see how this process is working in our lives. A few months ago I had a crazy idea that we ought to leave this state because the government is making it harder to stay. With some of the recent changes, I was feeling enough is enough – we should move.

Then I realize that it’s an insane idea because nothing has really happened yet. However, you took the idea in and weren’t swayed when I began to have second thoughts. And you began to almost obsess on the possibilities for moving. What happened was the “need” opened up a greater screening quality inside of you that enabled you to scan all the possibilities of us moving to Las Vegas.
