John: Yesterday my dream was propelled by the energy of the kundalini, which is a Sanskrit word meaning “coiled” – like a serpent. It’s an energy that is mostly dormant in all of us, and is seated in the sacrum at the base of the spine. The kundalini is an amazing energy in that it’s a result of the clash, or coming together, of an inner aspect of light. (For yesterday’s dream, see The Heat of Kundalini.)

Kundalini has to create and cause an outer aspect of light to emerge. In the masculine way, it gets snapped into existence. In the feminine way, it just is. When it is awakened, everything is perceived and appreciated as being a part of the light – it’s a divine connection.

So in this imagery, I’m shown two possibilities – I’m shown two ways that things can unfold.

One is through the personal, ego-based way of the human, where a person acts according to their best thoughts and perceptions. The second is the divine way (universal way), which has to do with being embraced and swept up in the light – in the flow.

Of course we’re not used thinking that the world works this way. We’re used to fumbling about on our own in order to bring about some change, or to rectify a situation, or to try and steer things toward an imagined outcome that we have projected. That urge (which is a very personal view of life) cuts us off from the way things are, and from the way they should unfold, naturally (universally).

So, in the first dream, I begin by having to fulfill or maintain a perception of what needs to be, in terms of where and how I need to be situated. I’m trying to fit the ideal of what I’m projecting – according to my human perception. 

In this vision, I see myself as a person named Stark. I’m standing in the shadows – I’m barely an outline – and there are scores of my replicated self, standing side by side, formed into a circle in the shadows.

That image morphs into a pulling together of the limited light, and formulates a position in which all of the various points of human consciousness are pulled together to create an end result that looks like the light array of the Las Vegas strip, but that I can feel has barriers. In other words, it’s not wide open; it’s not totally free.

It’s like I see the lights from all the hotel rooms as dots positioned in relation to a particular spot in a building. And I know that’s unacceptable, but it’s the best that I can pull it together – the best formation I can make – in relation to trying to contend with the lights emanating from the Las Vegas strip.  

It’s like I’ve recreated the lights of the strip myself, but it’s a poor imitation. There are parts still in the shadows, as though they’re protected.

So, there’s something not quite right in all of that. I mean, with all the effort I made, that was what I ended up with? There’s a sense of personal indulgence in this effort that hurts the heart.

This image is a portrayal of what will unfold based upon my current state of consciousness. Because I’m in the shadows of my true self, I’m not fully aligned. So the result of what gets portrayed is unacceptable and not how things need to be.

Simultaneous to that vision was something that also occurred as an example of the second way, the divine way, in which I just allowed myself to be in the light, to stand in the face of the light. 

In other words, I was not in the shadows, not in a multiplicity of myself, and not called Stark. I was just myself in the light, not trying to do anything other than take in the sense of the light.

It was as if the light knew how to give birth. All of a sudden the light flares out, just like you might have a solar flare or volcanic eruption. The best way I can describe it is that it seemed as if the light had a tail to it, and the tail just flickered out through the rays of the light, sparkling as the tail moved.

The end result was a whole new manifestation within the light. Something new is there now that couldn’t have been put together in the wildest imaginations of all the Starks of the world.

In the misaligned state, this instantaneous manifestation could never come about. It’s as if the light suddenly just flickered a tail, created the flare, flashed it out, and then lo and behold there was a whole new extension of lights. It was like the next phase. It was what was needed.

So this is shown to me as what’s possible when one stands in the light of self without compromising it, without limiting it to the personal view. The unfolding it portrays is a divine plan coming into manifestation, born from the light.

Because we all are the light, that’s all we are. If we surrender ourselves to the light, new manifestation becomes possible.

If we don’t surrender, we are limited to our own faculties, which can only lead to the “Stark” images – endless replication. It’s living life through a shadow consciousness that doesn’t know any better.

John: My dream dealt with similar themes as yours (see The Dance of Life), but instead of it being a literal dream, it was more a repetition of images that had a simplistic nature about them.

The simple images were ones that felt controllable in terms of how I would like to see them unfold, yet at the same time they felt incomplete. I was always getting a barrage of images that had more going on in them – they were multidimensional – and they kept me off balance.

The simple images had to do with my personal well being, and making choices; they felt good. The more complex ones led to a greater outcome – they actually took into account the past, present, and future of Creation all at the same time. They are more about the core of things than the details of things.

What I’m saying is that if I’m allowed to shape the outcome (of the simple images) so that they make sense to me, in order to keep from confusing and complicating my life, that’s when I fail to appreciate the fullness of existence, and I remain unaware of what is unfolding.

Said another way, I’m only looking at what I want to look at, instead of seeing all that is going on. I’m not allowing other aspects to have their importance. I’m trying to steer things according to what I want and think feels right.

The more complex images have all kinds of possibilities going on simultaneously. I haven’t filtered them by my personal choices. These images have complexity and combinations that aren’t defining or screening things out – they take everything into account and portray life more as it actually is.

So the images that portray what I want to believe or see are personally chosen by me, and are limited by the veils of my own defense mechanisms. Those veils allow me to feel safer, more protected, less confused, and more at ease with everything, but I’m giving up the big picture. In doing so, I lose the ability to function on other levels, i.e., I’m not able to see the signs of God (so to speak) that provide me with information about these other levels and the whole, simultaneously.

If I limit myself to my own perspective, it’s like drinking my own Kool-Aid – I’ll never really know what’s going on. It’s drinking from a cup that’s full of myself. To expand out of myself, and to access these other levels, is to accept the flow in all of life, a flow that leads to a greater perception of the whole.

A human being isn’t able to know what’s going on when they’re caught in personal perspectives, because those perspectives are just images that we shape to fit our expectations – they stifle the natural processes of life.

Our veils can only be removed when we accept everything in life. The world is like a great painting – the surface may seem flat, yet there is a much larger experience available to us when we explore the hidden depths within.

When we only see what we want to see, we deafen ourselves to the call of the greater process in which we exist. We foolishly do this because we don’t have a real understanding of our wholeness. If we did, we could push right through the veils and begin to drop the defense mechanisms and personal barriers that we think are so important.

This was a hard dream to write up.

John: Yesterday we heard your dream (see Into the Woods), and saw how it described a journey between two places – the house you are staying in and the meeting place with the teacher. In between these two places is a darkness that you are having trouble navigating on your own.

That’s where you’re friend comes in. She is a part of you, and she represents the means by which you can develop a certain sight, or understanding – at the depth of your being – that enables you to navigate in the darkness intuitively; by hearing or just knowing.

In other words, the unfolding of the spiritual part of one’s self – the higher self – occurs through a light that you can’t see. There is a gap that exists between these two points: you are whole and complete as a part of Creation, yet you’re in a state of amnesia, too, because of the darkness between the higher and lower parts of yourself. We are all, for the most part, strangers to higher selves.

Still, you have the feeling that something important is beckoning, is calling you, which is shown by the meeting house where the teacher is. The whole zone in-between is full of darkness. It’s full of trauma, it’s full of fear. It’s full of all the qualities that cause one to be veiled and lost to oneself.

And you mentioned that you have seen this meeting place before in your dreams, and needed help to find your way along the dark path. So you are being shown your lower self (the house you are staying in) and your higher self (the meeting place and teacher), and the darkness in between is the veil that has been created through fears, patterns, and the general disconnection we get from our cultural training.

But our systems are always trying to awaken us to ourselves. So the dream repeats, giving you the same hint, and offering you guidance. You are at a point that could be bliss, because the mystics spoke of this point where the in-breath turns into the out-breath as a point of bliss. (In the other direction, where the out-breath turns into the in-breath, it is described as a point of longing.)

But you are at a point where you can’t really hear the guidance of your higher self because it sits in an unconscious zone. So you find yourself telling the teacher that you can’t hear him. In other words, you’re not getting the memo. You’re not getting the connection. The teacher represents the higher self in your nature, but you’re not able to gain the awareness being offered.

Why not? Because you’re still depending on “things.” Among other things, you’re depending upon some quality of light or understanding from “your friend” in order to make your way back and forth to this place in Creation. In other words, you have your abstractions, and therefore you can’t properly listen.

You can’t properly gauge the two points. Ideally, if you gauge the two points, they’re one and the same. But you don’t know that because you have the higher self and the lower self and there’s all of that darkness in between that keeps you veiled.

This also is a good dream from the standpoint of the question “Why do dream work?” Well, this is why you do dream work: so that you can come to know these points, that they are accessible by all of us, and to bring awareness and light to the darkness that prevents us from knowing.

In that process, you can actually raise your energetic – you begin to work with higher energies. You raise your inner sense of power. You also speed up, because higher energies move faster, and that allows you to access even more from within.

In the dream work process, and in this particular example, you’re given an image that shows you the polarities, and because you are on a path, you understand you are being beckoned to something important, in terms of the higher self, even though you can’t quite hear the teacher. At least you know that the teacher is trying to get your attention and to communicate something you need to hear.

The dream also shows that you need to be able to go back and forth, between your higher and lower self. You need to light that pathway, and connection, until such time as they might merge into one.
